We would rather keep a tree than remove it
Our aim at TR Trees is to provide customers within the TR postcode with unrivalled tree care and vegetation management, using modern working practices that are safe, efficient and cost effective.
Retaining a tree is the primary aim if it is in a suitable position, and a reduction is often a better way to lower the risk than a removal. When a tree does have to come out, we say why, we do it safely, and we suggest what should go back in its place. The work is done to British Standard 3998 with the timber and brash dealt with, and where we can use one of our cranes the job takes a fraction of the time.

01Tree removal
Trees sometimes have to come out: a species that has outgrown its spot, a trunk hollowed by fungus, or a winter storm that has exposed a weakness. We always look at managing a tree's size first, and when removal is the right answer we do it safely, cleanly and with the timber and brash dealt with.

02Tree pruning and reductions
Keeping a tree is nearly always our first aim if it is in a suitable position, and pruning is how that is done. From a light reduction that still looks natural to the hard pollard a tree needs to stay where it is, we choose the method that suits the species, the setting and the years ahead.

03Crane assisted tree removal
We started using cranes and HGVs in 2022 after finding that ordinary tree surgery vehicles were not up to removing large trees. If we can get a crane to a removal we are normally able to cut the time on site by around three quarters, and the heavy sections are lifted clear rather than lowered through the garden.

04Stump grinding and removal
We remove stumps in two ways: a stump grinder where access is tight or the stump is small, and the digger with the crane and lorry where the stump is large and can come out whole. Which one suits your stump depends on its size, where it is and what you want to do with the ground afterwards.

05Emergency tree work

07Vegetation management
Vegetation management runs from removing ivy from trees and structures to hedge trimming and field clearance with brushcutters. We aim to do this kind of work in the dormant winter months, when small animals are less active in the vegetation and we can keep an eye on their movements as we go.

08Woodland management
Woodland management is for clients with a few acres or more of woodland who want to look after its contents and its future health or productivity. The work most often involves thinning, planting and removing fallen trees, and our lorry, digger and cranes mean the timber actually leaves the wood rather than lying in it.

Tree planting
Tree planting is a vital part of keeping the country's tree stock healthy, and worth considering if you have space that is ecologically lacking. If you remove a tree, replanting with a species more appropriate for the setting is something we strongly recommend, and something we can do as part of the same job.

Ecological habitat creation
Habitat creation is a good way of using the timber and brash from a felled tree. Instead of removing all of the waste from a site we can build an ecological habitat from it, which often reduces the total cost of the work because there is less haulage and labour. We also carry out habitat pruning of dead trees, install bird and bat boxes, and eco pile organic material.

We started using cranes and HGVs in 2022 after finding that ordinary tree surgery vehicles were not up to removing large trees. Where we can set a crane up, sections are lifted straight over the house to the lorry, the lawn and borders stay untouched, and time on site normally drops by around three quarters. An 18 tonne lorry with a 10 tonne payload means we stay loading instead of leaving to tip.
